What UK employers expect on a CV
Leave off the photo
UK employers do not expect a photo, and many prefer not to receive one because it can expose them to claims of bias. Acting, modelling and some presenting roles are the usual exceptions.
No date of birth or marital status
The Equality Act 2010 protects characteristics such as age, marriage and civil partnership, and race, so these details have no place on a UK CV. Your name, phone, email, town and LinkedIn profile are enough.
Two sides of A4
Two pages is the accepted length for most roles, and many graduate CVs fit on one. Academic and medical CVs are the usual exceptions that run longer.
Open with a personal statement
Three to five lines at the top saying who you are, what you are good at and the role you want next. Rewrite it for each application rather than sending one generic version to every employer.
Right to work and British spelling
If you are not a British or Irish citizen, a line such as 'Settled status' or 'Graduate visa, valid until 2027' answers the recruiter's first question. Keep the spelling British throughout: organised, programme, licence.

UK CV questions
Should I put a photo on my CV in the UK?
No, unless you work in acting, modelling or a similar field where appearance is part of the job. UK recruiters generally prefer CVs without photos. The photo field in CVFalcon is optional, so simply leave it empty.
How long should a UK CV be?
Two sides of A4 for most people, and one side for many school leavers and graduates. If yours runs to three, cut older roles down to the job title, employer and dates.
Do I need to include references?
No. Employers ask for referees when they are close to making an offer, and 'References available on request' only uses up space. Keep your referees' details ready separately.

Is a CV the same as a resume?
